Thyroid hormones such as thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) play a decisive role in our health, and any disturbance of thyroid function can lead to hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism and other serious conditions. The tests we provide
Our laboratory performs a wide range of tests related to thyroid function.
The main tests include:
- TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone): TSH is the hormone produced by the pituitary gland that stimulates the thyroid. It is the most common test for assessing thyroid function.
- T4 (thyroxine): this test determines the level of thyroxine, the main thyroid hormone. For a better assessment of the gland, however, we recommend measuring its free form, FT4, since total T4 is also bound to other proteins.
- T3 (triiodothyronine): this test is useful for assessing hyperthyroidism and other disorders.
- Thyroid antibodies (anti-TPO, anti-Tg): used to detect autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease.
The Testing Procedure
